Time to get tough on racism
in the health service

In the midst of an unprecedented crisis of confidence in the National Health Service, top Black nurses have called for urgent action to improve the status and esteem of their colleagues and the treatment of long-suffering Black communities.

Race-health issues are complex, and worrying signs are noticeable in multiracial societies abroad. Our US correspondent reports on a noted African American physician who says "in our society we see, value and behave toward each other through the powerful lens of race".

Our articles explore these issues, and their cross-Atlantic variations, and offer some guidelines for Black professionals in health institutions.
