Give truth a chanceThe West had 200 years to manufacture its story about its conquest, campaign, annexation and subjugation of African and colonial peoples of the world, to modify these events for their own purposes, and to build them into the texts and images of Euro-centric history which shape our minds, still, today. Black History Month in Britain must therefore seek to affirm the goals of postcolonial liberation and race equality; individuals and institutions must inform themselves and society of the proud record of black achievement, and of necessity must critique and re-write historical texts and narratives.
